A defendant is someone who the court might ask to fix, or to pay a penalty for, some wrong they have committed. The defendant in your consent decree would be your employer or the company that you work for who are allegedly discriminating against you and/or other female employees. The defendants in a consent decree are represented by attorneys who represent their interests by making sure that the consent decree reflects a solution acceptable to the defendants.
